The Water Pumps in Villages Project was created to help villagers gain access to clean water, and en route, improve their health. Unclean and unsafe water is a big problem in Africa, especially in rural areas (i.e. villages). Carrying many diseases such as Onchocerciasis or river blindness, which according to the World Health Organization (WHO), this disease “is a parasitic disease with an insect vector that breeds in water. It is the world’s second leading infectious cause of blindness” (www.WHO.int).
